US approves likely sale to Australia of companies for SM-6 and SM-2 IIIC missiles

The US Point out Division has permitted a likely USD350 million Foreign Armed service Sale (FMS) to Australia of expert services relevant to the future acquisition of SM-6 Block I and SM-2 Block IIIC air-defence missiles for the Royal Australian Navy’s (RAN’s) still-to-be-developed Hunter-class frigates.

The US Defence Stability Cooperation Company (DSCA) notified Congress on 25 August that the expert services highlighted in the proposed deal include things like advancement engineering, integration, and tests (EI&T) obsolescence engineering activities necessary to ensure readiness US authorities and contractor engineering/complex assistance, and linked research and assessment guidance technological and logistics help solutions and other associated components of programme and logistical guidance.

The DSCA reported in its notification that the proposed sale “will aid the readiness and upcoming sale of very important anti-air warfare capability that can be deployed from Australia’s newest Hunter-class destroyers equipped with the latest Aegis combat programs.

“The acquire of Regular Missile 6 Block I and Standard Missile 2 Block IIIC missiles is presently bundled in Australia’s procurement roadmap and will make improvements to their capacity to function with US and allied naval forces from the full spectrum of naval threats,” pointed out the DSCA, adding that the principal US contractor would be Raytheon Missiles and Defense in Tucson, Arizona.
